A floor does not fail because of the tile: it fails because of the three millimetres of adhesive underneath.

The substrate-tile pair decides everything
Porcelain does not absorb like a clay tile, and a fresh screed does not behave like an existing floor. Porcelain has very low absorption and needs a fixer formulated for that condition: using tile adhesive under porcelain is the most common cause of hollow-sounding units.
When a semi-flexible adhesive is needed
When there is some movement, when the substrate is difficult or when the unit has low absorption. Polimor is semi-flexible and polymer-modified, delivering a chemical adhesion conventional adhesives do not offer.
Pools and permanently immersed areas
Pool adhesive is semi-flexible, medium controlled grain, with polymers and special additives giving great adhesion under water immersion. No conventional adhesive is formulated to work permanently submerged.
Why tiles sound hollow
Because the adhesive did not cover the whole face: it was combed badly, left to skin over before bedding the tile, or a product was used without enough workability for the tile size. The answer is not more adhesive, it is the right adhesive and a respected open time.
